Maria Montes Arvizu, originally from Guanajuato, Mexico, and raised in Stockton, CA, is a library worker, amateur archivist, and a part of Stockton’s art community. They graduated with a double major in Speculative Design and Ethnic Studies from the University of California, San Diego. Throughout their time at UCSD they were involved with various student organizations including Students Against Mass Incarceration (SAMI). They are interested in how design reinforces oppressive structures as well as incorporating the connections between art and social justice into their art practice.
